About Mr. Gopher

Mr. Gopher has been part of our lives for as long as we can remember. His letters first began appearing during childhood summers in the mountains—always handwritten, always thoughtful, and always exactly what we needed to hear.

Found tucked into Band-Aid tins and nestled between pinecones, his words brought comfort, imagination, and a sense that someone out there was truly paying attention. Over time, his letters became a tradition—one passed through generations, filled with gentle wisdom and quiet forest magic.

Though the cabin that once held those memories is now gone, the feeling lives on. And through these books, Mr. Gopher continues to write—offering children the same kindness, wonder, and warmth that once made ordinary days feel extraordinary.

About the Author

Laurel Anderson grew up spending summers in a beloved mountain cabin tucked deep in the Sierra National Forest. It was a place of pine needles and porch stories, where cousins played barefoot and handwritten letters from Mr. Gopher quietly appeared—reminders that magic could be found in the smallest, gentlest moments.

That cabin, passed down through generations, became the heart of her childhood. When it was lost in a wildfire, the memories only deepened—the stories, the laughter, the warmth of her Nana’s words tucked into Band-Aid tins.

Laurel created Mr. Gopher and His Heartwarming Adventures to honor that time, that place, and the people who filled it with love. Through her books, she hopes to pass along the same sense of wonder, comfort, and connection that shaped her own world growing up.

What We Hope You Take Away

We hope these stories feel like a deep breath.

That they remind children (and the grown-ups who read with them) that quiet moments matter. That it’s okay to move slowly, to feel deeply, to wonder about little things.

We hope Mr. Gopher’s letters make you smile, and maybe even see the world a little differently—more gently, more curiously, more full of hidden magic.

Most of all, we hope these books become part of your story too.
